villa york

an event space in Rome

The project involves the construction of a new building on the Villa York estate in Rome. The building has an asymmetrical pitched roof, a feature that in plan translates into two different functions, hall and services. Separating the two rooms at the top of the roof there is a brick masonry wall, reinterpreted in a modern key. On the outside, the project appears respectful of the pre-existences and the building element remains neutral. The wall separating the hall from the service spaces gives access to two patios, designed as enclosed gardens, green rooms. Near the gardens the curtain wall is dematerialized to generate a filter of direct light, further enhancing the composition of the scenic backdrop. The gardens are imagined as places to relax introducing the theme of water and greenery inside the building.
